KHEOPS ENVIRONMENTAL COMMITMENTS
PACKAGING:
As packaging
material, we use natural wooden wool, recycled cardboard and biodegradable
Styrofoam peanuts. Regular Styrofoam has been replaced by a brand new recycled
material: Honeycombs cardboard made by “Cascades”®. We recycle boxes, paper
and bags. Bubble wrap is reusable as well.
MANUFACTURE:
Since 2008,
instead of throwing away glass leftover, we give small pieces of glass to craft
workers who are happy to work with those.
On a regular
basis, we work with “Gaudreau Environnement Inc.” (a waste management
specialist) to find new ways of recycling even more.
OFFICE:
We recycle
office paper, scratch paper, and we send it to recycle bins only after multiple
uses. Walls are painted with Boomerang ® recycled paint.
To save
energy on lighting, T8 ballasts have been installed with new economic
fluorescents; this installation alone saves 9684 kw/h per year.
We use only
eco-friendly cleansing products.
Organic
certified fair trade coffee and sugar are offered free of charge to all
employees.
Food leftover
in kitchenette is composted.
Bathroom
products are all eco-friendly.
MARKETING:
Catalogs are
made with F.S.C. certified 55% recycled paper with no chlorine and no acid.
We use
ENVIROINK, a vegetal ink to print our catalog.
MANAGEMENT:
In selecting
products, we give priority to suppliers who care about sustainability, the
safeguard of the environment, and eco-friendly and fair trade practices.
Our products
enhance well-being, consciousness, ethical practices, spirituality, and the
safeguard of the environment.
Kheops team
strives for developing eco-friendly practices and improving its ecological
footprint year after year. The team cares also about saving energy: turning off
lights, computers, thermostats, is now well implemented.
For 2010, we
are committed to put in place a new program that involves all the team: Each
year we will plant around 1600 trees. As a result, it should neutralize at least
50% of all Kheops CO2 emissions.
We loan part
of our property and materials for free to a local elementary school for various
activities involving ecological concerns and sustainable development.
Finally, we
support “Volonterre” a non profit organization formed by committed young
Quebec performers, writers, singers, and dancers who present various thematic
shows in schools.
